| Introduction |
| Sakuma-Lumber
Inc., established a hundred years ago in Asakusa, Tokyo, is a lumber dealer that
has specialized in providing quality products and services for our customers. |
| We have a long history with plywood for steel
rule dies. |
| A steel rule die
is a cutting device with blades in a particular pattern, often used to make popular
paper products such as cartons, corrugated cardboard boxes, specially-shaped envelopes,
etc. These blades can be held in place with high-strength plywood. |
| In Japan, plywood has been used for steel
rule dies since 1941. Back then, the technique for manufacturing plywood was rather
underdeveloped, and as such, plywood products were of very poor quality. |
| In 1956, seeing a great future for plywood,
Sakuma-Mokuzai entered this new market and began manufacturing plywood for steel
rule dies, with the goal of improved quality. |
|
After extensive trial and error testing, we gained the ability to produce products
with precision and strength and as a result, were able to create them with no
gaps, warps or peel-offs. |
| Such
fine plywood products allow the construction of dies with extremely tight tolerances,
which translates into greater accuracy, few flaws and less waste. |
| Ever since, we have continued to improve the
quality of our product line and attained increased manufacturing efficiency in
our production process. |

| In addition to serving the wrapping, carton and
packing material markets, the revolutionary process of using plywood as a base
for steel rule dies has also begun to meet the needs of a growing new market for
non-metal rule dies, which have come into demand by such users as the automobile
industry. |
